Disable Skype from running at PC Startup

After upgrading to Skype 5.5, and if a Skype users choose the Compact View option instead of Default View, a window titled Skype Home will automatically open and appear every time Skype program is starting or on computer reboot. The additional “Skype Home” window effectively defeat the purpose of Compact View, where users who supposed to get a smaller Skype main window now is getting two windows instead of one.

To make matter worse, Skype does not provide an option to disable or stop Skype Home screen from autostart.

As a workaround, Andrew Worcester wrote a tiny program that taking care of any extra Skype Home window. The “Kill Skype Home” app is designed to start with Windows. It will search any any open windows named “Skype Home”, and when found, to silently kill and close the window.

Future Laptop Could be Charged by Typing

Australian researchers have figured out a way to harness the energy we use while typing to power a laptop. Using piezoelectricity, this method works in a similar way to cigarette lighters that create a spark by striking a piezoelectric crystal.

To power a laptop, though, a much thinner film of the piezoelectric material would have to be developed using nanotechnology. It’s so thin, it can be coated onto various electronic parts and integrated into a variety of gadgetry.

“The power of piezoelectrics could be integrated into running shoes to charge mobile phones, enable laptops to be powered through typing or even used to convert blood pressure into a power source for pacemakers — essentially creating an everlasting battery,” Dr. Madhu Bhaskaran, the study’s co-author, told  GizMag.

World's 1st Wireless Power-Assisted Bike

Shadow eBike is an electric bike that appeals with its aesthetic looks and wireless technology. Powered by a 250W – 350W motor and a 36V 10Ah lithium-ion battery, the bike can cover 20-25km on motor power alone and 35-40km with pedal-assist before it requires a 4-5 hours’ full charge.

The motor, battery and cables are all packed inside the front wheel to give the bike a neat and elegant look. Toronto-based Daymak Inc. has dubbed the Shadow Ebike “the world’s first wireless power-assist electric bicycle.”
The bike’s electric motor, regenerative brakes, throttle and pedals are wirelessly controlled by the Daymak Drive controller packed inside the front wheel. The wheel also includes a USB port, charging port and an LED battery power display.

When brakes are applied, the regenerative braking system sends power back to the batteries.

This is All part of iLife ’11.

This is a capsule description of the ilife’11. As you know, Apple has added the iLife ’11 suite to Mac Box Set offerings available at the online Apple store, and various other outlets such as Amazon. A basic $129 bundle includes iLife ’11, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iWork ’09. The Family Pack edition costs $179, but includes licenses for five computers instead of just one.

iLife ’11 makes major changes to its three core programs, for instance implementing new fullscreen views in iPhoto, and effects macros in iMovie. GarageBand has gained tools for fixing rhythm and note duration. Some fullscreen modes in the suite notably borrow design cues from the iPad, mimicking things like the tablet’s photo stacks and iOS-style menu bars.

Netflix Headed to New Apple iTV Tomorrow [REPORT]

At Apple’s special event Wednesday, the company is expected to roll out a new Apple TV that includes support for Netflix.

These latest reports from Bloomberg corroborate rumors of an iOS-based Apple TV that surfaced this spring. With Netflix available on theiPad and the iPhone, an offering for the television set certainly makes sense.

I’ve long argued that the original Apple TV failed to really gain traction with buyers because it was too limited in its media offerings. The reason that Boxee was such a gift to Apple TV owners circa 2008/early 2009 was because it connected the device to lots of different online media sources, including Netflix.

Mystery of Mistakes

Mistakes are a part of being human.

Every thing has two faces, similarly mistakes also have two sides – positive ones and you guess the other one. From upfront/positive sides some mistakes are very rich and precious to teach a life long lesson, some mistakes even become achievements of life. Cornflakes

Auto Lift Iron-An Amazing Gadget To Avoid Accident

Mishaps while ironing are pretty common and a burnt shirt or dress can cause severe heartache and great inconvenience. A lapse in concentration can cause the user to burn holes in expensive clothing items. The auto lift iron is a novel invention by Italian-based Ariete to prevent common accidents .

The Auto Lift iron is incorporated with one-touch technology to enable it to detect the touch of the user’s hand on the handle. If this was not sensed, the iron would automatically lift itself and stop steam from being emitted. When users grab it again, the sensor will detect the touch of a hand and lower itself to continue functioning as usual. This automatic feature will surely help to reduce the chance of burning holes in clothes and even avoid domestic accidents or fires.
